As a child who loves playing with paper folding games, I draw inspiration from the transition of basic forms and shapes which help me to create associations with natural structure and to speak about nature in my own unique way.
The combination between metal and welding techniques, direct painting on the surface of the form, along with the manipulation of proportion and folding arrangement of the flat panels created a Lotus that feels unconstrained and fluid. Space and rhythm of movement are subtly constructed using only straight edges, acute, and right angles. The initially separated, static flat plates, when brought together, transform into a dynamic, continuous flow… The heavy, solid, and concise geometric metal shapes become surprisingly thin, light, and flexible echoing the feeling of folding paper. Achieving this delicate movement and expressive lightness requires a complexity that belies the work’s apparent simplicity, ultimately conveying a feeling of lightness and elegance.
