Story

SILK | 2018

My works are influenced by the Oriental sense of aesthetics with focus on forms and colors.

Looking at nature, I can always feel their inner interactions, or the dynamics between nature's forces, besides their direct or indirect effects on human beings. There are always Yin and Yang, dark and light, good and bad walking hand in hand, and injuries are inevitable. I listen, observe, imagine myself as part of nature, and feel. Beauty is the moment I feel the connection between me and the elements around. There is an unbreakable bond of an organic nature between their presence and mine and I want to preserve that bond to its fullest.

This bond does not hold me captive, nor does it make me deny myself. It helps me hold on to memories and recollections in their rawest form. That is how I show respect for what is original and true. I treasure them as pieces of the jigsaw puzzle of love and of all that I hold dear.

I want to make even the most mundane and mediocre thing special. I look at every thing or person passing through my life as a unique experience. There is happiness. There is unhappiness. And then there are these little things that I treasure and seek: the small expressions of love, the little joys of life, the memories from childhood, etc. Yes, especially the memories from childhood! They always fill me with such feelings!

I love the purity of silk, the innocence of a child, and the strength that hides beneath the surface of fragility of a woman. Silk is a special natural material that comes from a silkworm's cocoon. That's why I chose silk; it's the best medium to help me depict the bond between humankind and nature. The characters in my paintings always speak of the here and now, be it a visit from one's inner being or a dream of what is yet to come.

I wish to recreate aspects of my own world with my own unique style. People enjoy and appreciate arts not always with professional knowledge but more often with their feelings and life experience. Therefore I want to give them something, from the media to the ideas, which is simple, honest and real.

I want each artworks to speak for itself in a way that is different, natural, and enduring. It must touch the heart. It must say something new. It might even completely change one's outlook on life. And I do hope they will make us care more about nature and be kinder to this home that we share, so that nature in return can bless us even more.
