CERAMICS | 2025 | H170 x L320 x W410. 2,2 tons

This series is inspired by the plump, rounded forms of fruit, symbolizing life, fertility, and prosperity. By depicting the peeling and cutting of the fruit’s skin, the work reveals its inner layers, representing the process of discovering the hidden nature and truth beneath surface appearances. This is metaphor for life, beauty and transformation in both the natural world and human life.

Large, bulging ceramic blocks immediately evoke the sense of ripe fruit. Precise cuts, slices, and splits lend an anatomical quality – powerful yet delicate. The form divides into branches, legs, and pedestals, symbolizing the growth and division of life. The composition is intentionally simplified, aiming for a minimalist yet evocative abstract language.

The ceramic surface is treated with a rough, bumpy, natural texture, creating a feeling of rawness like tree bark or fruit peel. This tactile quality is contrasted with the finishing stage: blue and brown glazes add depth and emphasize the transformation where the slices are exposed. The crafting technique combines these large blocks, creating flat, curved, and concave panels with multi-layered color, maximizing the expressiveness of the form.

The skin functions as the boundary between outside and inside, between what is hidden and what is revealed. The image of the peeled fruit evokes the cycle of growth, ripening, and opening, paralleling the human journey to find the essence of existence. The ceramic forms convey both a sense of fertility and fullness alongside an atmosphere of calmness and meditation, connecting natural inspiration with deep philosophical reflection.

This series aims to achieve a balance between roughness and sophistication, nature and abstraction. The contrast created by the slices – between cover and exposure, wholeness and separation – evokes a sense of transformation, the flow of time, and the vitality of matter. The “skin” is not just a symbol of ripeness fertility of nature, but also a metaphor for the journey of revealing the hidden essence within. The work is thus simultaneously familiar and strange, intuitive and abstract, prompting reflection on life and being.
